We wanted the computers to understand "what's in the picture" since we had computers and digital images.

The story of reaching this goal is the story of letting go. It is the story of giving up the position of the strict teachers to mere supporters of the learning process.
In this talk, Ori is going to tell this story from a bird's eye view, using her over 20 years of experience beginning as an image-processing and later becoming computer-vision algorithm researcher.

Ori is going to talk about how we started up with writing rules and heuristics, and how we progressed to machine optimization models over features we hand-crafted. Then she will show how in current deep learning we let the machine find the features as well.
She will conclude by asking what’s the next step forward.
