MY TALKS
Courageous Leadership - Embracing Agility in the Face of Uncertainty
Soft Skills, Leadership
Most organizations typically reward compliance and fault prevention. Facing the challenge of changing the organization is hard. The leader commonly lives under an unforgiving spotlight and there is not much space for trial and error. Embracing Agility means empowering teams to self-organize, encourage creativity and basically "let go" while determining the rules and expected results. In her talk, Michal will provide examples for practices and typical challenges when establishing an organizational change, and patterns and anti patterns for effective leadership.
Agile on Batteries: Agile transformation in the biotech industry
Leadership, Soft Skills, Inspirational, Innovation
Several years ago, I got a phone call from VP RnD of a Bio-Chemical startup. The startup aimed to develop the next generation of fast charging batteries for electric cars. Their main challenge was how to accelerate their development cycle and take smarter decisions with regards to future research and development alternatives.
For me it was a huge challenge. I was questioning myself whether Agile and Scrum framework can be adjusted to the bio-tech industry, where molecular formulas replace code lines, and anodes and cathodes are the artifacts.
An additional challenge was the human factor. How can I teach Chemist PhD's that are used to work on project cycles of years to start working on short and fast increments?
Today, 4 years later, this startup successfully built a fast-charging battery. They work in cross functional Scrum teams and achieved high level of transparency that enabled them to take the right decisions towards a successful and innovative product.
Since then, I had the opportunity to work again with companies from the bio-tech industry and was able to better define the uniqueness of such transformations.
In my talk I will share insights from Agile transformations in the bio-tech industry. I will share the main highlights, quick wins, and struggles. I will emphasize the similarities and differences in Agile transformations in the software industry vs. the bio-tech industry.
The Zombies and the Monkeys
Soft Skills, Software Engineering
If you are part of the industry, you've probably heard the words “Agile” and “Scrum” more than once. Perhaps you took part in an Agile transformation and attended an Agile training of some kind.
Over the years Scrum meetings and practices become “ceremonies”. Teams are implementing Scrum in a fixed manner which is exactly the opposite of being Agile. Embracing Agile and Scrum as a fixed practice prevents growth mindset that is necessary to embrace while working in a complex environment.
In my talk I will share my insights about fixed Agile and Scrum behaviors and suggest creative ways to achieve the true purpose of Agility within the organization.
This lecture is spiced with humor and with questions for the audience
